Volkswagen is set to reintroduce the iconic GTI badge to India with the launch of the Golf GTI on May 26, 2025. This marks the second GTI model in the country, following the Polo GTI's debut in 2016. The Golf GTI, a performance-oriented hatchback, promises a blend of exhilarating performance and everyday practicality.
Powertrain and Performance
At the heart of the Golf GTI lies a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 265 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. This power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT), complemented by an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. Volkswagen claims a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h.
Design and Features
The Golf GTI's design is both sporty and sophisticated. Distinctive elements include GTI badges on the grille, front fenders, and tailgate, a red trim accentuating the front fascia, and a honeycomb-patterned bumper. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with 225/40 R18 tires, and features red brake calipers and dual exhaust tips at the rear.
Inside, the cabin is equipped with:
A 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system
A 10.25-inch digital driver's display
Matrix LED headlights and smoked LED taillights
A panoramic sunroof
Wireless charging and ambient lighting
A 7-speaker sound system
The Golf GTI will be available in four color options: Kings Red, Grenadilla Black, Oryx White, and Moonstone Grey.
Pricing and Availability
The Golf GTI is expected to be priced at approximately ₹52 lakh (ex-showroom). The initial batch of 150 units has already been pre-booked, with Volkswagen planning to introduce an additional 100 units later this year to meet the strong demand.
